Mojito Elephant Ear

(36” tall x 36” wide) ‘Mojito’ Elephant Ears takes tropical foliage to a new level. The long, mottled stems of ‘Mojito’ are topped with large 15-18” leaves that slowly unfurl in tones of green and chartreuse, liberally painted with vibrant splashes of purple.  As the summer wears on and other plants grow weary, Elephant Ears (Colocasia) become more vigorous – colorful right up until the first frost! Plant Colocasia ‘Mojito’ in spring in a sunny or part-sun location in moisture-retentive soil after all danger of frost has passed, and feed and water regularly for best results. Gardeners in zones 8-10 can leave ‘Mojito’ in the ground for next year’s display. In colder zones, it will need to be dug or the container brought into a cool, dry, dark space above 40F, such as a garage or basement. Elephant ears are seldom severely damaged by deer.

IF OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 40 DEGREES THESE PRPBABLY WON'T SURVIVE. I DON'T REPLACE OR GIVE REFUNDS FOR PLANTS DAMAGED BY COLD WEATHER. Elephant ear plants bring to mind tropical forests, and bring drama to landscaping and containers. ear plants are hardy in zones 9 - 11. They can be grown in other zones with care (digging up the rhizone and storing them) and they make beautiful houseplants. They are huge and these are about 6 feet high and wide. One of the leaves I measured is 42" X 32" so they will be noticed. These are in large pots in the yard and you can't miss them. In pots they don't tend to get as large as the ones growing out in the yard. Colocasia, or the common name Elephant ear plants will be well rooted and the size is from the soil to the top of the plant.. These plants like moist soil but ours grow outside and sometimes gets very dry but continue to look beautiful. They like shade or partial shade. These when kept in the home are great air cleaners pulling out the toxins from the air. If you want a tropical look around your pool or patio, these will do the job. They won't be ignored as they are large and beautiful.. These plants are dug the day I ship them. I wrap their roots in damp paper towel that is then wrapped in plastic wrap and carefully wrapped in tissue paper. Elephant ear plants are the hardiest plants that I Grow. Even if a leaf is yellow and the plant is wilted it will survive and grow quickly into a beautiful plant. (Just imagine if you were in a dark box, and tossed around for days you would be a little wilted and perhaps yellow too). I will send a care sheet with each order.
